Bridge P5 is located in one of the most sensitive areas of Stuttgart Airport – right in the busy zone in front of the departures and arrivals hall. Carrying out the refurbishment under these conditions presented the entire project team with particular challenges: in order to maintain a smooth flow of traffic and keep the airport running at all times, traffic beneath the bridge had to continue to flow unhindered throughout the construction period.
This required a logistical feat, precise timing and a huge amount of coordination both in the run-up to and during the project. Following the successful completion of the final remaining work last week, this challenging construction project has now been brought to a close on schedule and without incident.
Partnership on equal terms as the key to success
The fact that a project of this complexity could be completed so smoothly is the result of an excellent team effort. Throughout the entire project, our collaboration with the designers and the client was characterised by a spirit of partnership and mutual respect. Working closely together, we resolved technical details to deliver the best possible solution for the client in terms of both cost-effectiveness and functionality.
The success story continues unabated
The successful completion of the P5 bridge refurbishment also marks the start of the next chapter in our collaboration with our ‘neighbour’, Stuttgart Airport.
Since 1 April 2026, SWIETELSKY has been officially commissioned under the annual building specifications (LV) for structural works at the airport. This call-off contract, which runs for two years (including an option to extend), is primarily about flexibility and speed.
Our experienced ‘Existing Buildings’ team will therefore continue to be on hand in the future to actively support the maintenance and further development of the infrastructure at Stuttgart Regional Airport with the quality SWIETELSKY is known for.
We would like to thank the entire project team, the designers and the client for their excellent cooperation and the trust they have placed in us!
