City of Rosenheim – Küpferlingstraße: Sewer Renewal, Supply Lines, and Road Construction

16.07.2024

The SWIETELSKY branch in Rosenheim began extensive work on the renewal of the combined sewer, supply lines, and road construction on Küpferlingstraße in Rosenheim in October 2023. This significant infrastructure project, with a contract sum of more than 1.9 million euros gross, is expected to be completed by the end of August 2024.

Scope and Objective of the Construction Measure

The focus of the construction measure is the renewal of the existing combined sewer, which consisted of a concrete channel with dimensions of 700/1050 and is now being replaced by a new reinforced concrete channel with a diameter of 1.20 meters and a length of approximately 270 meters. In parallel, parts of the sidewalk with utility lines and the road surfaces will be newly constructed.

Technical Challenges and Innovative Solutions

The execution of the work is complicated by very confined conditions due to the existing utility lines in the road structure. To successfully carry out the work, 20 wells were drilled to lower the groundwater by approximately 2.00 meters. About 15,000 hours are required for the operation of the pumps alone for the lowering. During the new construction, the existing sewer must remain in operation. All connections such as house connections, street catch basins, lateral channels/ feeders, and roof drainage must be reconnected during or after completion. This poses one of the greatest challenges and requires careful planning and execution to ensure the ongoing operation of the existing sewer.

Collaboration and Project Participants

The project is being carried out on behalf of the city of Rosenheim – city drainage, the civil engineering office, and the municipal utilities of Rosenheim, which involves the coordination of a total of three clients. The planning work is supervised by the engineering office Tom Beierl, engineering office for construction, while Norbert Steinberger from the planning office PuD Steinberger acts as the safety and health protection coordinator (SiGeKo).

A special thanks goes to the city drainage of Rosenheim and the engineering office for the excellent collaboration, which has significantly contributed to the smooth progress of the project.
