In November 2024, a significant railway renewal project was successfully completed in Ismaning. Over five nights, from November 20 to 25, key measures were implemented to improve the safety and reliability of rail traffic.
The focus was on the renewal of two key switches (IBW 500 series and ABW 500 series) in the tunnel section. These measures ensure more efficient train movements in the S-Bahn operation at Munich Airport and greater network stability.
A highlight was the installation of seven new maintenance paths made of GFRP panels (glass-fiber reinforced plastic), which ensure durable and safe accessibility for future maintenance.
Despite challenges posed by the onset of winter on November 22 – the transport of materials and equipment was hampered – the team managed to stick to the schedule. The work in tight tunnel spaces required specialized equipment and utmost precision.
The completed project demonstrates the importance of modern materials and proactive maintenance for infrastructure. The renewed tracks and maintenance paths ensure smooth and safe operations for years to come.
Under the construction management of Tilo Tietz, a scheduled execution of the construction measure was ensured.
