Successful project start in Freiberg: Extended shell construction for core and sample archive

14.05.2025

Since April 2025, SWIETELSKY has been realizing the extended shell construction of the future Central Saxon Core and Sample Archive in Freiberg. Commissioned by the Saxon State Office for Environment, Agriculture and Geology (LfULG), a significant infrastructure project for the Free State of Saxony is being developed on Lessingstraße with a contract volume of around 4.5 million euros.

The aim of the construction project is to store and scientifically make accessible all core samples and rock samples of the Saxon state geology as well as those of the TU Bergakademie Freiberg at a central location in the future. This will make an important contribution to the long-term preservation of geoscientific data.

The construction work involves high technical requirements. In addition to the excavation of large soil masses, a modern combination of in-situ concrete and precast construction methods is being used. The installation of high-quality exposed concrete elements as well as the processing of semi-finished walls, composite columns, prestressed concrete beams, and slabs underline the demanding nature of this project.

SWIETELSKY is pleased to be part of this forward-looking construction project and to further strengthen the scientific infrastructure of Saxony together with all project participants.
