Track Renewal Eichstätt–Treuchtlingen

19.12.2022

In the span of just one month in the autumn of last year, the Munich branch constructed on the route 5501 between Eichstätt and Treuchtlingen in the Altmühltal on behalf of DB Netz AG.

In compliance with the pandemic regulations in effect at the time, track improvements were carried out in collaboration with the machinery department from Fischamend over a total of 6350 meters, and over 14,000 meters of tracks were rebuilt, along with additional services such as side paths and work on deep drainage, ditches, and basins. Among others, the combination machine RU 800 S, the switch tamping machine 09-32/4S Dynamic, and the track tamping machine 09-4X were used, each with a ballast leveling machine BDS 2000, EM-Sat. The double-track line between Eichstätt and Treuchtlingen has a total length of thirty kilometers and was completely closed for reconstruction by the client. A special feature was that rock was expected at largely unknown depths over long sections. This posed an additional challenge in processing and quick response for the reconstruction methods and the scheduling of the supply and disposal of materials. From June 25 to July 10, 2022, quality tamping runs and additional switch work were carried out during night weekend closures at the stations Eichstätt and Solnhofen and were subsequently handed over to the client without defects.
