Regensburg lies directly on the Danube and has therefore been shaped by flooding events for centuries. To provide lasting protection for residents, infrastructure and traffic, the city relies on well-engineered, efficient flood protection measures. On Werftstraße, SWIETELSKY delivered a key project to strengthen local flood protection on behalf of the City of Regensburg.

The focus was on implementing a well-designed, efficient protection system consisting of several components. A total of 130 soil nails were installed to secure anchored support systems, enabling the rapid erection of precisely fitting aluminium flood barrier walls. In addition, pressure relief openings and pump sumps were constructed to ensure targeted pressure equalisation: excess hydraulic pressure can be safely released, while water is collected in a controlled manner and discharged.

Once the technical flood protection works were completed, the traffic areas were reinstated. Approximately 4,200 m² of asphalt roadway was fully renewed, ensuring long-term usability and safe mobility.

With this project, SWIETELSKY makes an important contribution to resilient, future-proof flood protection in Regensburg and would like to thank the City of Regensburg for its trust, as well as everyone involved for their commitment and successful delivery.
