After around seven months of construction, district road BGL 3 between Laufen and Saaldorf-Surheim was reopened to traffic. SWIETELSKY Deutschland was responsible for the comprehensive renewal of the carriageway as well as the road drainage system. As part of the project, the road was thoroughly rehabilitated: in addition to strengthening the base course, a new asphalt wearing course was laid in accordance with current technical standards.
A particular focus was placed on the sustainable design of the drainage system. To protect the sensitive natural area around Lake Abtsdorfer See, modern sedimentation and lamella clarifier systems were installed to treat the runoff from the road and thus help safeguard water quality. In addition, the existing municipal infrastructure was adapted: foul and stormwater sewers were integrated into a newly created separate sewer system.
The measures implemented significantly improved both road safety and driving comfort. At the same time, the project makes an important contribution to environmental protection.
