Stuttgart Airport is one of the most important transport hubs in southern Germany. Especially during the holiday season, the airport operates at peak capacity, with more than 30,000 passengers per day and hundreds of take-offs and landings. In this demanding environment, SWIETELSKY carried out the general refurbishment of the pedestrian bridge between Car Park P5 and Terminal 1—a project requiring the highest standards of scheduling, safety, and efficient construction processes.
The scope of work included the dismantling of the former DEKRA tower (a steel structure), the demolition and replacement of the bridge deck surfacing, as well as extensive structural steel and corrosion protection works. The construction period ran from mid-August to mid-December, demanding precise coordination of all interfaces to reliably accommodate ongoing airport operations.
The project highlights the importance of experience in working with existing structures, particularly at high-traffic locations where every step must be planned and executed with precision. SWIETELSKY would like to thank Stuttgart Airport and all project partners for their constructive cooperation.
